...Mara woke to the sound of thunder rolling down from the north. She opened her eyes enough to see that beyond the lacy edges of the curtains framing her bedroom windows darkness still covered the world, then pulled her arms under the light blanket, buried her face in the crisp coolness of the pillow and drifted back to sleep.
