The sound of her voice throbbed in her ears, then faded away and the old gypsy sighed, and dropped her head to her chest. "Laven," Ada whispered. "Please hear me. Hear and answer me. She cannot survive without you. Please! She needs…she needs…I…"

"You think to trick me, old bird."

Ada followed the sound of the voice to her hand, to the pulsing shining crystal ball. "Laven?"

"The daughter is mine."

Tears dropped from the old gypsy's eyes, splashed onto the ball and slid over the curves in rainbow colored bands. "Laven."

The crystal throbbed and the voice repeated. "The daughter is mine."
