After divorcing her husband, a diplomat, Karolcza Wojnar left Washington, D. C., and took up residence in Paris. “I’m afraid I must seem morbid,” she says. “I do most of my writing sitting cross-legged on a small, granite bench in the Pere Lachaise cemetery when the weather allows. I do not own a computer. I write by hand with pencil in a small, leather-bound notebook. When it is filled, I turn it over to my typist, Paul. After he has put a story that I've written into proper manuscript form, he erases the pages and gives the booklet back to me. It gives me great satisfaction to put what I have felt and what I have observed onto the page.” When Ms. Wojnar is not writing, she enjoys "sitting in my drawing room, looking down at the street, plotting."
